As the three week election season in India comes to a close, Narendra Modi is poised to be the next Prime Minister of India, a country of 1.27 billion people. No wait. 1.016 billion. Because he only wants to be Prime Minister of a Hindu nation. And neither he nor his party consider Indian citizens of other faiths (Muslims, Christians, Buddhists, Jains, Sikhs etc) to be truly Indian. Because, you know, their ancestors were all Hindus at some point (don’t tell that to the Buddhists or the Adivasis) and if they would just acknowledge it, we could all get along. Modi, a life-long member of the fascist RSS (Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh) – yeah, those folks who assassinated Mahatma Gandhi – and his political allies believe in a Hindu India. And Indians of all stripes (yes, even some non-Hindus) seem to be willing to give the man a break. Stood by while 1000s of Muslims were killed in 2002 in a pogrom in his state of Gujarat when he was Chief Minister? Pshaw. Get your priorities right. He’s a good businessman. Which has been great for Gujarat. And isn’t that what India really needs just now? http://nyti.ms/1e4La5N
Thanks for the analysis.
